First Look on your Wedding Day

What is a ‘first look’ on your wedding day?

Some couples opt to have a ‘First Look’ on their wedding day, and for different reasons.

Before we get into the few reasons why this is a popular option, note you need to have allowed time in your schedule before your day. On the day you may not have time depending on where you are located, your ceremony location etc.

We need to plan for a first look. Hair and makeup needs to be completed a little earlier, time for your bridal/getting ready portraits, and time to meet at the allocated location.

If you’re interested in this idea, let us know! We can discuss options as we plan your timeline.

And if a first look isn’t right for you and you’d prefer to see your partner during the ceremony, that’s perfectly fine too!

First Look on your wedding day is becoming more and more popular.

A few reasons why a First Look on your wedding day may be considered:

A first look in fairly common in the US, but here in Australia we are getting more and more requests for a first look prior to the ceremony. Here are a few reasons why these are becoming more popular:

Intimate Moment
A first look allows the couple to share a private moment before the ceremony, see each other, take in the moment and this can help ease nerves and create a special memory just for the two of you.

Photography Opportunities
It provides a dedicated time for photographers to capture your reactions and emotions in a relaxed setting before your wedding ceremony. Just the two of you.

Schedule Flexibility
Doing a first look can allow to have your portraits prior to your ceremony, then post ceremony is celebrating with your family and friends.
This can also be useful should poor weather be predicted for after your ceremony.

Less Pressure
Weddings can bring all types of pressure, including through family members, the anxiety of being in front of a group of people (even though they are your family and friends), some couples are very private and want this moment for themselves before saying I do’s then being more comfortable throughout their ceremony.

Ultimately, it’s about what feels right for you as a couple!
